Is e-Learning for you?

Who should take e-Learning courses? Test yourself to see if e-Learning is for you.

E-Learning courses are designed for highly motivated students who cannot or do not want to come to campus because of their work schedules, family needs or other reasons. e-Learning students can control their own schedules by working with the course materials at their convenience within the framework of the course syllabus. However, the courses are not self-paced; classes begin and end on the same schedule as regular campus classes. Depending on the instructor there are also regular assignments and exams are due on specific days.

Most e-Learning courses require access to computers and internet connections. Students at North Seattle also have the option of coming to campus to use the two computer labs that are available. Students must have a current NetID to use these labs.

Public libraries may also offer computers but may restrict user time or block required server access to virtual classroom sites. Students need to contact their library for more information about computer use.

Self Assessment for e-Learning students.

How hard are e-Learning courses? The classes are not easy. They are rigorous and require discipline. Most distance learning courses have more readings and assignments than on-campus classes to assure that the student will cover the same material as an equivalent on-campus class. To assess how you might "take" to distance learning, click here to take a "self-test".  Virtual College also offers a short survey that you can take online to further access your skills.
