Basic Needs for All Students


The North Seattle Women's Center supports the educational interests and endeavors of current and prospective students at North Seattle.  The resources are available to all students, women and men. If you need connections to resources and services, the Women's Center staff can provide support, information and referrals.  The center resources are available for drop in during business hours which are Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM or evening by appointment.

What Resources are Available:

Women's Center staff can help connect you with a variety of programs and organizations that can assist you, including:

  • Transitional housing and emergency shelters
  • Emergency rent, utility, and food assistance
  • Domestic violence and sexual assault
  • Affordable health care for you and your family
  • Counseling
  • Divorce and legal services
  • Family planning: birth control, pregnancy
  • Transportation
  • Substance abuse
  • Child care

The following information is a series of updated resource lists historically compiled by the Women’s Center at North Seattle Community College. These lists address the following basic needs for students both female and male:

Hard copies of the information above are available inside the Women’s Center on the bulletin board and just outside of the Center, in the clear wall-mounted resource pockets.
(The Women's Center is located at CC 2345C 2nd floor, North of Admissions and Registration). 

Other Resources Available within the Community:

Washington State Information Network/Crisis Clinic

This website is a comprehensive guide to Services in Washington State provides contact and descriptive information for assistance programs that address: basic needs, legal issues, safety, mental health, medical health and many other social services.

Other resources that are available to community members include the Crisis Clinic, a non-profit offering support services to everyone in King County. They have access to a computerized database of more than 13,000 health and human services providers, can communicate with callers in 155 languages, and have a searchable database available at: www.crisisclinic.org. Their 24 hour crisis line is: 1-866-4CRISIS or 1-866-427-4747. 

Public Health of Seattle and King County

Additionally, the Women’s Center at NSCC has an existing partnership with Public Health of Seattle & King County. Brett Downey is a bilingual (Spanish/English) outreach specialist who makes campus visits every Wednesday from 11:00am – 12:30pm outside of the cafeteria. Or, contact him via email or phone (206-296-0881).  He promotes public health programs, makes referrals, and helps people apply for medical/food/energy assistance. 

NSCC’s Women’s Center is available to female and male students as a referral center.
