WebCT (Blackboard - CE.): Prepare Your Browser Settings

What computer set-up works best?
WebCT (renamed Blackboard - CE) course features we are using work in Internet Explorer, Foxfire or the Mozila browsers (see the links below for a free download of these browsers. Please download the latest version of the browser (even if you use AOL as your Internet Service Provider you must use either IE, Foxfire or Mozila to access your WebCT course). The web pages are best read with 800 x 600 resolution (this can be chosen under your computer "Settings"). Finally, pages "refresh" automatically if your browser is configured to check for the latest version every time you visit a web page. For help in doing this, click here to access WebCT's page on "tuning" your browser.

You can also test your computer settings before you have your class account by logging into our WebCT Demo  Classroom

For help further help in diagnosing your computers compatibility with WebCT go to the wizard now located within the Blackboard/WebCT website.

What happens if some of the class features do not work properly?
My first suggestion is to check to see if this is a computer set-up problem. Do not use the AOL browser which has been problematic for online courses at many colleges. Click here to download the free versions of Internet Explorer
or Firefox browser.  It has been found that some computer configurations work best with one browser over another.  If you are currently using one browser and WebCT is not working correctly, downloading a different browser may solve the problem.

Please note: We have recently discovered a conflict with our version of WebCT and those who have recently updated to IE7.  To correct this you will need to add WebCT to the list of trusted sites for popups to consistently function as expected.  Earlier versions of IE seem to work with WebCT.  If you have difficulty with IE and WebCT using the Firefox browser may correct the problem.

For more information about disabling Pop Up blockers in Internet Explorer please follow this link to the Microsoft website.
