MUSC 113 D1: Music in the U.S.
Short Description: This fully
online class is an overview of musical developments in the U.S. from
Colonial times to the present. Examines contributions of the
ethnic/minority groups and the relevant social issues connected with the
music. Audio clips are streamed over the Internet. Access to the
course is available one week prior to the start of the quarter. Audio
files and video clips are available on the course web site.

How to Start Class: Access to this course is available one week before the quarter

site. Email your instructor to introduce yourself and obtain the login
information to access your online course materials.
Please Note: Distance Learning courses
require active participation and students need to log into their classes
during the first week of the quarter to avoid getting behind.

Other Instructional Materials:
Audio clips are streamed over the Internet. Students may
watch the videotapes and listen to the audio CD at the NSCC or SSCC
Libraries, where two copies of each item are on reserve for MUSC 113
students. Alternately, students may purchase the offline viewing and
listening materials from the Internet or other sources, or consider
borrowing copies from public libraries or other people. A syllabus

For classes using an online component, we suggest that you download
the free version of
Internet Explorer or
Mozilla
Firefox and use one of these browsers whether or not AOL is your
Internet Service Provider. Otherwise, if you are using the AOL
browser, the built in shortcuts may cause problems with most North
Online course tools. If you have loaded a special software tool bar
such as the Google or Yahoo toolbar this may interfere with your
courseware and cause it to not work properly please go to our
