IT 101:
Software Applications Instructor: Patricia Clark Copyright 2005 Telephone:
206.528.4523 Things You Need to Know http://elvis.sccd.ctc.edu:8900 This will take you to WebCT which is the server that holds our web site that contains the course materials. (Use Internet Explorer to access this site.) You will find the schedule, syllabus and chapter summaries there. Accessing the site: Your login for the course web site will be the first initial of your first name and your full last name. All of the letters must be lower case. Your password will be the last six digits of your Student ID. If you are taking multiple on-line courses, you will only need to log in once to get access to all of your courses. If you registered before the first day of the quarter your account will be available to you on the first day of the quarter. If you registered on the first day of the quarter or later, your account will be created within 48 hours of the day that you registered. How to use the site: Open the site in Internet Explorer. If you dont have Internet Explorer you can try Netscape. You may have some problems in other browsers, if so, let me know. First just browse the power point presentation for the current chapter. When you have completed the chapter use the presentation to summarize what you have learned and as a study guide for the test. Class Discussion site: - Access to the class Discussion will be through the Homepage. It is the last link on the bottom of the Home Page. If you have a question about an assignment you can send it to the Discussion site. Other students that know the answer can post it to the Discussion site and that way everyone in the class will see both the question(s) and the answer(s). You will be surprised how many ways there are to solve problems and handle tasks. Emailing me: If you need to get in touch with me email me at pclark@sccd.ctc.edu. I check my email frequently so this is the best way to get a response quickly. Always type IT101DL in the subject area so your email will be filtered into a separate folder on my computer. Need Help: If you get stuck, dont keep trying to figure it out. After 5 minutes, and I mean 5 minutes, seek help. While you are waiting for a response from me or other students move on to the next assignment! So, start with looking up your question in the applications help menu, and then if you cant figure it out with the instructions there, ask for help from others. In order to make sure that you complete your assignments on time, make sure you have finished the work that has been assigned by the end of the week that it was assigned. You will be surprised how fast the time will go and you only have one opportunity to turn in your work. Have
fun! You will learn more if you enjoy yourself. If youre too tired,
grumpy or just would rather be somewhere else, let it go. Come back to it
when you are ready to learn. |
