Course Description:
English 102 is a writing workshop designed to strengthen your skills in critical reading, thinking, and writing.  Its primary purpose is to consolidate and build upon the knowledge and skills learned in English 101.  We will learn more on how to read fiction, continue honing our essay-writing skills, and of particular concern in English 102, begin writing from sources.

Simply put, this means that we will study and practice quoting, summarizing,
and referring to the information and ideas of other writers; we will learn how to use these resources correctly.  Individual and group assignments will give you opportunities to practice techniques required for academic writing.

This course is intended to help you become a more insightful reader and more confident, independent writer in whatever tasks your education poses.  It is unlikely that, at the end of the quarter, you will have completed your learning.  On the contrary, at the end of the course, you should be prepared for life-long learning about the craft.
