COURSE OBJECTIVES:
This course has been designed by the North Seattle Community College to:
1.give students ample practice in all phases of the writing, editing, and revising processes.
2.enable students to recognize and define a thesis/main idea/controlling idea
3.enable students to shape an essay based on purpose
4.enable students to develop and shape support for the thesis
5.enable students to anticipate and meet audience needs
give students practice in critical reading skills by analyzing each other's drafts and responding to them in a constructive manner
6.give students practice in developing a repertoire of sentence structures
7.give students practice working in small peer review groups
8.enable students to produce and edit their writing independently
9.give students practice with in-class writing that requires completion of specified objectives in a limited time.

PREREQUISITES:
This is a college level English composition course which requires that you provide me with a piece of paper, from the testing center or from your previous NSCC developmental level instructor, which documents you have the skills necessary to succeed in this class. If you took a developmental level course at NSCC, you will have a placement form from your previous instructor. Otherwise, you will need to go through the NSCC Testing Center to take the English placement exam or receive the proper form.
