divider.gif (67 bytes)

Short Description: This fully online class begins with an articulation of the negative attack on the religious with attention to Freud, Nietzsche, and other classical sources, as well as a close analysis of these critiques.  An examination of some of the world's great religious traditions follows (e.g., Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and some of the primal traditions.)  The course then explores common themes among these traditions, as well as significant differences.  Various forms of religious experience, with some emphasis on classical mysticism, are then examined.
