HUM 110: Introduction to Film

Short Description: Introduction to Film: Focus on contemporary American cinema.  This course examines Hollywood filmmaking as an art form, a business and a shaper of culture.  Students will learn how to read a film critically and how to write about film.  We will pay special attention to independent film and contemporary directors on more recent independent American films and films by directors of color like Spike Lee. Students are responsible for obtaining videos/DVDs from the recommended films in the textbook and/or syllabus.
