Short Description: This Hybrid Online program fulfills some of the following AA /degree requirements: Integrated Studies/"I.S.", Composition, and Individuals and Society. Through reading, writing and online collaboration, this 10 credit course will introduce important topics in psychology and will provide instruction and practice in the writing process. You will develop the skills to read and think critically, to incorporate material from sources into your writing, and to communicate your thoughts clearly and succinctly to others.  Readings in social psychology, abnormal behavior, personality theory and the development of the brain and the growing individual will provide the basis for our writing and discussion.  Themes that will be discussed will include: How do you change behavior?  What are critical elements of raising healthy children?  How does medical treatment affect behavior?  What is the relationship between what we think and how we feel? What are the elements that lead to a fulfilling life?

Books may include Kindlon and Thompson's Raising Cain, Martin Seligman's Learned Optimism, Stanley Milgram's Obedience to Authority, Oliver Sack's Anthropologist on Mars, and M. Csiksezentmihalyi's Finding Flow.
