POL 102:
American Government

Short Description:
This fully online course surveys the origin and development of the U.S.
government. It covers Colonial history, the Confederacy and the creation of
a federal system. It also covers the functions of Congress, the Executive
Branch, and the Judicial Branch of government. Discussions and debate
include topics involving environmental policy. The Clean Air Act, Clean
Water Act, and Endangered Species Act will be examined. Students will read a
basic text and take a small quiz on each week’s reading assignment.
Assignments will include quizzes, online discussion, and a research paper. A
textbook will be required and additional sources will be provided to the
classes. All instruction will be completed online.

Campus Attendance Requirements: One highly
recommended
on campus orientation meeting. Using the online chat session, students
are required to participate in a discussion board posting/discussion per
week. Optional introductory
training will be available after the quarter begins.
