POL 102:
American Government

Short Description:
This fully online, videomedia course surveys the origin and development of
the U.S. government. Covers Colonial history, the Confederacy and the
creation of a federal system, the functions of Congress, the presidency, and
courts. Includes interest groups, civil liberties, political parties and
elections. This course gives students a broad understanding how American
government makes policy. Students will read a basic text and take a small
quiz on each weeks reading assignment. Students will also complete weekly
research assignments using online data sources. These will be posted in an
online forum discussion. Uses the video series The Constitution: That
Delicate Balance. Video lessons are videostreamed online. These videos may
also be viewed for free in the campus library or rented for the quarter. All
other instruction will be completed online.

Campus Attendance Requirements: None. Using the online chat session,
students are required to attend one online synchronous meeting per week.
